COOLING BLANKET

AT KINGS FUNERALS, WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU MAY NEED A LITTLE MORE TIME WITH YOUR PERSON BEFORE THEY COME INTO OUR CARE.

Many people are not aware of this option, and although this may not suit everyone, it is important to know it is legal and that people can be cared for by family and friends at home after they die

We have introduced a Cooling Blanket hire service for Greater Geelong, the Bellarine, Surf Coast and Golden Plains communities. The blanket uses a thermoelectric cooling process which circulates fluid through a cooling pad, is portable and easy to operate. It helps support longer stays (up to 3 days after death), enabling family members to be involved in the death process and care for their person in the same way they did during their lifetime.

If an expected death occurs at home and the family wants their person to stay for a short period of time (a few hours), no equipment is required for care. We suggest opening the windows, removing heavy blankets and turning on fans or air conditioning in the room.

If you want your person to stay longer and they die overnight, there is no need to call us immediately; you can call us in the morning to organise hire of the Cooling Blanket.

We also offer opportunities for families to wash, dress, style hair and apply make up to their person at our Kings venue as well as traditional viewings in a coffin.

WHAT IS OFFERED

A Kings Funerals team member will deliver the Cooling Blanket to your home between the hours of 9.00 am and 5.00 pm (extra charges will be incurred for weekends or public holidays) and provide instructions on how to use, how to position the person and what to do when you are ready for your person to come into our care and start the funeral arrangements.

If your person has an expected death away from home, in a nursing home or hospital, and you wish to spend more time together, Kings Funerals can transfer your person to a private home, where they can stay with you for several days.

If you engage Kings Funerals to transfer the person into our care and arrange their funeral after you have spent time at home with them, a credit towards our transfer and mortuary care fee will be applied to your account.

HOW TO CARE FOR SOMEONE AT HOME

We suggest laying your person on their back, with their legs straight, placing a pillow or rolled-up towel under the neck, placing their hands beside their hips or on top of their chest, inserting dentures, closing the mouth and eyes and removing any heavy blankets. A sheet is all that is needed to cover them.
